“Amanda has a unique way of tailoring her expression of poetry to specific situations. Her work is a valuable asset in that it raises awareness of NHS services and local support.”
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
Amanda has collaborated with various organisations including schools, libraries, arts centres and healthcare services. In recent years this has encompassed working with local NHS Trusts, whereby she’s been commissioned to write and perform poetry that raises awareness of services and campaigns. Some of this work includes Reach Out; written for a mental health campaign, which was created into posters and displayed across the West Midlands. It further includes Grateful; written to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the NHS & arrival of the Windrush generation.
Amanda’s extensive work in creative health also encompasses poetry featured in an NHS anthology, collaborations with Birmingham Hospice and a display in the Chaplaincy Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. A commissioned article for the Culture, Health & Wellbeing Alliance reflects on her work in Creative Health over the past few years.
The poem 1954 has been used in schools to support children’s learning on the history of the Windrush generation. She’s also worked alongside projects that have highlighted other diverse aspects of history, this incorporates a poem that was created for the Black Tudors: New Narratives exhibition at Selly Manor Museum.
